Home > About LUMIGAN About LUMIGAN: Glaucoma Medication
The most common treatment to reduce elevated IOP is medicated eye drops. Your doctor prescribed once-daily LUMIGAN ophthalmic solution,an FDA-approved medication proven to lower IOP in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension

LUMIGAN therapy is thought to lower IOP by enhancing the outflow of aqueous humor, helping it to drain through two separate path ways out of the eye. This dual method of outflow makes LUMIGAN an effective therapy to lower IOP and help manage glaucoma.

If you've been prescribed LUMIGAN ophthalmic solution, your eye doctor has determined that you have glaucoma (open-angle glaucoma) or ocular hypertension (elevated IOP). Although glaucoma cannot be cured, clinical studies funded by the National Eye Institute have shown that lowering IOP can reduce the risk for visual field loss.

Your eye doctor has decided that LUMIGAN is the best therapy for you to lower your IOP thereby reducing your risk for vision loss.

LUMIGAN (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% is for the treatment of high eye pressure, also called intraocular pressure (IOP), in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

Important Safety Information
LUMIGAN (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% has been reported to cause darkening (pigmentation) of eye color, eyelid skin and eyelashes, as well as increased growth of eyelashes. Pigmentation changes can increase as long as LUMIGAN is used. After stopping LUMIGAN, darkening of eye color is likely to be permanent while darkening of the eyelid skin and eyelash changes may be reversible. The effects of increased darkening beyond 5 years are not known.

When only one eye is treated, there is a possibility of eyelash changes in the eye treated with LUMIGAN. These changes may result in differences between the eyes in eyelash length, thickness, darkness, number of eyelashes and/or direction of eyelash growth. These changes are usually reversible upon stopping LUMIGAN therapy.

If you wear contact lenses, remove  them before using LUMIGAN. Then wait 15 minutes after using LUMIGAN before you put your contacts back into your eyes.

If you use more than one eye drop medication,  wait 5-10 minutes between putting in each drop.

The most common side effects are eye redness, growth of eyelashes,  and itchy eyes.
